People in congregate settings such as schools, corrections facilities, and homeless shelters are often disproportionately affected by public health emergencies. CDC sought Intreped Partners’ help to create a set of resources to help state and local health partners implement evidence-based infection prevention and control strategies to protect the health of individuals who live or work in these complex settings.

Preparedness Planning, Training, Exercises, and Continuous Improvement
2024 through Fall 2025
Intreped is working with CDC experts and partners to develop three evidence-based infection prevention and control implementation tools with resource guides tailored for use in schools, correctional facilities, and homeless shelters and encampments. Then, we’re creating a communication plan to guide dissemination of the toolkit, a training plan to support public health partners, and an evaluation plan to help CDC and partners assess the toolkit’s impact.
When the tools are ready in Fall 2025, state and local agencies will be better prepared to help schools, corrections authorities, and community organizations respond to outbreaks and prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases in their communities.
